Belts are great fashion accessory if you know how to use them in versatile ways. There actually is a purpose for all those different belt designs out there. Each type of belt is used differently to form the perfect outfit.

A wide belt with a pencil skirt or mini skirt is a classic look. By pairing a simple and basic colored skirt with a bright belt or even brown or black your outfit transforms in to a better look. The belt gives definition to the waist and defines the separation of your shirt from the skirt, especially when wearing a cardigan.

The second look is the skinny belt. Skinny belts are great, especially the metallics. The skinny belt looks wonderful with any high wasted pant and a tucked in shirt. Again, this emphasizes the waist line, but in this case not as much as a wide belt would. This look is clean and great for a professional work look!

The skinny belt is also paired with the skinny jeans. Now this is a hard look. Some can get away with it and some can not, but if you can all the power to you! Since the skinny jean is already so tight it is hard to pair a tucked in shirt with the belt without getting those weird love handles.

Lastly, the the belted dress look. A dress can be paired with any kind of belt, but it all depends on the fit of the dress. Often a tight fitted dress looks best with the skinny belt because you already have definition at the waist and you do not want to draw away from that. If you have a loose fitted dress often the wide belt is best because it draws in the extra fabric creating a waist line. You do not want the fabric to droop over and cover the belt.
Honestly, this is a hard look to have a precise decision on. Often a dress will look great with a skinny or wide belt. Always compare one to the other.
